The Talent Agents You Need for the NUTS You Crave
NUTS, ltd. is a non-union talent agency representing Twin Cities actors for local, regional, national and international companies and clients. As the oldest established agency of its kind in the Twin Cities, we are at the top of our craft, primed with unparalleled experience and dedication, and true to our roots. We promise the only drama you’ll find around here is in the acting performance, not in the professional.
Meet the Staff
Laura M M Johnson:
Owner of NUTS, ltd.
I have been active in theater since my pre-teen/big, bad bangs era. Voice-over has been part of my life even longer! I cut my first radio commercial in 4th grade, spent my high school years working part time as a disc-jockey at Q102 FM in Willmar, and I managed my college radio station, WBCS. Prior to owning NUTS, I made my living as a successful commercial and industrial spokesperson, live event host, voice-over artist, and stage actress (Hey City Theater, Shakespeare in the Park, Blue Collar Theater, and others). I continue to keep my live event skills razor sharp by working as an in-game host/public address announcer for the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Wild.
Otherwise…let’s see. I am a BIG TIME culinary enthusiast. I’ve worked as a culinary assistant and instructor at the Kitchen Window Cooking School in Uptown, Minneapolis. I’ve hosted informal cooking events, catered events for friends, and have been hired to teach craft cocktail classes at private parties. I am a voracious reader and a lover of learning. Cookbooks, blogs, magazines, fiction, non-fiction, medical journals, manuals—you name it, I’ll read it.
I am fascinated by social media (Twitter, Facebook, Blogs, LinkedIn, etc.) and how it works to connect people/ideas/interests. I’m excited to share who we are and what we’re all about via our media outlets.
As an agent, I believe it is crucial to know my actors. NUTS’ reputation depends on knowing our talent! I take in as much live theatre in the Twin Cities as my schedule will allow. This not only serves as “continuing education” for me, my staff and the business, but shows continual support and encouragement for the talent I represent.
NUTS Agent, Director of New Talent Recruitment and Development
I bring a vast level of experience to my role at NUTS after a whirlwind of activity in theater, on-camera, and voice-over work. Before pursuing the performing arts full time, I was a crisis trauma counselor in three different trauma centers in Illinois, Michigan, and Minnesota. My counseling and psychology background has been invaluable in my work as a performer, writer and director in the Twin Cities.
I am presently an agent and the director of new talent development and recruitment. My goal is to make sure we have the best talent for on camera and voiceover work. I have become a trusted resource for talent and clients.
I trained at The Brave New Workshop (BNW) Theater and spent six years as director of their training center, The Brave New Institute. I also worked with corporate services at The BNW as a writer and performer for corporate entertainment. As a keynote speaker, I have challenged corporate audiences with new ways of addressing idea generation and creativity.
Beyond the BNW, I’ve been a company member at Stevie Ray’s and at The Mystery Café Comedy Dinner Theater and have performed at Yellow Tree Theater and HUGE Theater. I presently work with the Actor’s Theater of Minnesota as an instructor, writer, and director.
I am overjoyed to be the part of this fabulous assortment of mixed NUTS! A graduate of the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point with a degree in Arts Management, I am passionate about empowering actors and producers to cultivate intelligent, innovative, and intentional work. My marketing, communications, and public relations knowledge combine to provide our talent with an exceptional agency experience, and I thoroughly enjoy collaborating with members of the Twin Cities production community as they source their talent needs through NUTS.
Theatre is my first love. My journey thus far has encompassed a myriad of roles, both onstage and off. In addition to performing, I have served as director, vocal director, stage manager, house manager, and dance captain for productions ranging in scale from educational to professional. In the Twin Cities, I’ve been fortunate to work with Actors Theater of Minnesota, Yellow Tree Theatre, and the Children’s Theatre Company. When not onstage, I am a highly enthusiastic audience member, and have a particular affection for new musical theatre, original devised pieces, and any show involving a kickline!
I am a ceaseless optimist, an unabashed hoarder of beautiful stationery, and a strong supporter of truly terrible puns. At any given moment, I am likely to be found hand lettering art prints, color-coding my planner, or impulse buying office supplies while attempting to perform a one-woman rendition of all the raps from Hamilton.
